Zaccagna Triumphs, French Falls in Week 9 of OCC Esports' Smash Play
April 13, 2022
Toms River, NJ - For the 1st time in nearly 3 (regular) seasons, the mighty Jackson French lost a Smash match. The Ocean team captain fell in battle to Montgomery County CC, 3-0 on Wednesday (4/13), bringing his record to 8-1. Conner Zaccagna carried the winning torch forward for the Vikings in week 9, picking up a win via forfeit to boost his record to 6-3, while Justin Ritter enjoyed a bye week, ending week 9 with an 8-1 record.
"Jackson lost his first regular season match in his college career," reflected OCC Esports Head Coach John Ruhl. "He will still have a great playoff run and look to join former OCC Champion David Ripinsky and bounce back from a single loss to win the tournament. Justin Ritter had a spring-back season and should get into the playoffs with his 8-1 record," Ruhl continued. "Conner had some setbacks in his 2nd season and will probably miss the playoffs, but hopefully, some luck will be on his side and he can squeak into one of the late seeds. Overall a great season for the Vikings. We had the most talented team so far with all of our players being very competitive. I think this is the season Jackson wins the National Championship."
The Vikings now move on to the NJCAAE postseason, with seeding to be announced.
