15 Outstanding Student-Athletes Honored at OCC Annual Award Ceremony!
Toms River, NJ - Fifteen outstanding Ocean County College student-athletes across 8 teams were honored at OCC's Annual Awards Ceremony, held at the Black Box Theater on May 23.
Phi Theta Kappa Heather Muser Memorial Alumni Award - Rachel Hess (Women's Tennis)
$300 is awarded by the Alumni Association of Phi Theta Kappa of Ocean County College to a member of Phi Theta Kappa who has made significant contributions to the programs and activities sponsored by the Tau Iota Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa.
Phi Theta Kappa Fraternity Award - Samantha Allen (Women's Volleyball)
Awarded to students who best exemplify the ideals of the Phi Theta Kappa fraternity, making significant contributions to the work of the Tau Iota Chapter, promoting intellectual and cultural growth.
The Joseph C. Hathaway Jr. Commencement Speaker Award - Ryan Cheslock (Men's Soccer)
In honor of Joseph C. Hathaway Jr., Commencement speaker for the Class of 2012. Donated by Student Life, $200 is awarded to the Student Commencement Speaker.
Who's Who Among Students at Ocean County College - Allison Oberg (Women's Soccer), Cedric Cook (Men's Soccer), Rachel Hess (Women's Tennis), Ryan Cheslock (Men's Soccer), Samantha Allen (Women's Volleyball)
$100 each is awarded to graduating students nominated in 2018 for making significant contributions to Ocean County College regarding scholarship and leadership.
Viking Athletic Department Commitment Award - Allison Oberg (Women's Soccer), Jonathan Gioxaris (OCC Athletics Student Worker)
$100 and a plaque is awarded to two students who have shown outstanding commitment and support of the athletics program, and loyalty to the College.
Patrick Carroll Award - Nicholas Hund (Men's Soccer), Doug Jensen (Men's Soccer), Dhillon Barbetti (Baseball), Michael Calabrese (Baseball)
$100 and a plaque is awarded to four male students who have excelled academically, whose influences have been most constructive in the field of Athletics, and who have exhibited satisfactory scholarship, sound citizenship, and loyalty to the College.
Julie Foukarakis Memorial Award - Shea Branda (Softball, Women's Basketball), Bailey Lengyel (Softball, Women's Basketball), Samantha Allen (Women's Volleyball), Monica Brignola (Softball, Women's Basketball)
$100 and a plaque is awarded to four female students who have excelled academically, whose influences have been most constructive in the field of Athletics, and who have exhibited satisfactory scholarship, sound citizenship, and loyalty to the College.
Support Staff Association of Ocean County College Award - Rachel Hess (Women's Tennis), Tyler Kalmowitz (Men's Lacrosse)
Donated by the Support Staff Association, a total of $2000 is awarded to graduating students who are spouses or dependents of Support Staff employees, and graduating students who have been in the College Work-Study Program.
Dollie and Harry David Sussna Scholarship - Rachel Hess (Women's Tennis)
Donated by Dollie and Harry David Sussna; initial award is $1,500 each to two outstanding students transferring to four-year institutions. $2,000 is renewable upon re-enrollment.
Philip G. Zitelli Scholarship in Leadership - Samantha Allen (Women's Volleyball)
Donated by Phil Zitelli, a member of the first graduating class of Ocean County College in June 1968, $5,000 is awarded to an outstanding graduating student leader continuing at a four-year institution with a 3.0 GPA or better.
