Golf Takes 4th Place in Region 19 Championship Tournament
May 11, 2026
Toms River, NJ - Ocean County College Golf wrapped up their 2026 season with a strong top 4 finish at the two-day, two-round NJCAA Region 19 Championship, hosted by Union College of NJ, and held at Ash Brook GC in Scotch Plains, NJ from May 11-12.
Carding rounds of 345 and a season-low 327, the Vikings ended their year behind now four-time Region 19 Champion RCSJ Gloucester, County College of Morris, and RCSJ Cumberland, but ahead of Sussex County CC, Raritan Valley CC, and host Union College of NJ.
The Region 19 Championship followed up a fine 3rd place showing at the Garden State Athletic Conference (GSAC) Tournament on April 29th at County College of Morris' Flanders Valley Golf Course. The Vikings finished with a 333 that day, just seven strokes behind GSAC Champion and tournament host CC Morris (326) and five shots behind RCSJ Gloucester (328). Ocean CC team captain Maxx Agnello (Lacey, NJ/Central Regional H.S.) fired his personal best round of five-over-par 77 to place 4th and earn First Team All-Garden State Athletic Conference (GSAC) honors, while first year starter Aaron Palmer (Toms River, NJ/Toms River East H.S.) contributed with a Second Team All-GSAC round of 82, good for 8th place.
"The team was amazingly consistent all year long, shooting four sub-90 rounds in every outing, then fired three 330 rounds and a 320 round over their final five rounds when things really counted," stated OCC Golf Head Coach Sean Fawcett. "Maxx Agnello and Cole Hinton (Manchester, NJ/Manchester H.S.) led the team with matching 7-over par 79s, with Danny Sicknick (Lacey, NJ/Lacey Township H.S.) shooting 83 in the Region's season-ending Round 2."
Aaron Palmer led OCC with a season average of 84.14 strokes per round, chipping in with an 81 in Round 1 of the Region 19 final. Agnello and teammate Mason Krey (Barnegat, NJ/Barnegat H.S.) added to the fun, averaging 84.38 and 85.83 shots per round, ranking right behind Palmer, 20th, at 21st and 23rd, respectively in Region 19. Hinton and Sicknick each averaged 88 strokes per round to rank 28th and 29th out of about 50 players.
"This is the first year I've coached at OCC where all five of the starters averaged in the 80s," said Fawcett. "That's some mighty good golfing. It's a tough game. Ninety percent of the people playing this game can't break 100. I am extremely proud of our team. They played hard. They played with integrity and they played with great school spirit and pride. They were a joy to be around, and it was an absolute honor to have been their coach."
