Men's Volleyball Tames the Harcum Bears, 3-2
Toms River, NJ - OCC Men's Volleyball won their 3rd match of the season following a 3-2 defeat of the visiting Harcum College Bears on Monday (3/9). The five-set victory elevated the Vikings' regular season record against Harcum to 1-1, after falling to the Bears in their first encounter on March 5.
The Vikings started slow in this heated matchup, struggling to match Harcum's intensity in a first set that saw Ocean fall behind and lose, 25-15. They found their footing in the second, pulling off a 25-20 win, before trading the subsequent sets and locking in the win with a 15-11 winning fifth set.
Ocean freshman OH/RS Giedruis Makselis and sophomore OH Jimmy Baxes were a dangerous duo for Harcum tonight, with Makselis launching 13 kills and scoring 16 points, and Baxes 11 kills and 13 points in the hard-fought win. Freshman MH Shaun Mihovch stymied the Bears with 13 points and 7 digs, and sophomore S/RS David Alvarez led the team's defensive effort with 11 digs.
The Vikings are now 3-2 overall, and will next host Middlesex College this Wednesday, March 11 at 6pm.
